Ack! Forgot the UF update!

Well, I realized as I was hoping for comments on previous posts that I never updated my non-existent readers on the result of my trip to the Microbiology Department at UF in Gainesville.

Here it is:
Yours truly is now a PhD student in the Microbiology Department, under the advisement of Dr. Wayne Nicholson at SLSL at NASA. I even received an Assistantship which means that I get full tuition remission plus a $21,000 stipend/year. I'm so excited! So now I'm in the process of finding an apartment to rent in Gainesville and I will be moving there this August.

I also may be going to Spain this summer. There is an Astrobiology Summer School/Conference in Spain in July and there are several scholarships available to US students to attend for free, plane ticket, room and board all included. I'm hoping to get that because going to Spain would rock and I would also get a jump start on the latest research being done internationally in Astrobiology. I'll be submitting my essay and application soon so we'll see how that goes.

I graduate in 15 days!! That alone is cause for celebration. However, this is what I have left to do:
Write a Paper (Marine Ecology) due Wednesday
Finish Undergrad Research and write the paper due Thursday week after next
Take Marine Ecology Final Thursday week after next
Take Space Sciences Final Two weeks from today

I suppose it's not that much but I'm still gonna be really busy. And I need to cram as much time as possible with Eric before we part ways over the summer. Another summer apart is gonna suck, and next year with me in Gainesville and Eric in Melbourne, 3 hours away is also gonna stink. But not as bad as the summer will. At least I'll see him in June for his friend's wedding in North Dakota. Hmm, I gotta buy plane tickets for that.

Anyway, I'm at work, pointedly not doing anything, which is bad because I need to get a PCR run today and there's a lot to do before I can run it. *slaps hand* Bad Amy, back to work.
